Nickelback – If Everyone Cared

I joined the Army National Guard
It is my choice and my desire, my longing and my dream
I do not go hastily without cause
I have contemplated and have had much thought
Life is wonderful doubt me not
But tonight I am going to go home
To worry about what I am going to have for dinner
Or to moan about how I have to get up for work in the morning
I am tired of this life, it is not real, it is not who I want to be

So what could I possibly accomplish in the military
I am but one more person with a serial number
But I will stand alone if that be the case
Why do you care, you were told not to talk to me
You can go back to watching TV, shopping at the mall
Back to your comforts and the supposed safety of your home
But it is a war that we are fighting
And I will do what I can to protect you once again
I offer my knowledge, my ability, my talents to the military
More importantly I will give my heart
To believe in something greater than myself

Though death is only another step in life
God, please watch over my friends and family whilst I am away
I can not protect them in two places at once
Why are you crying? Wipe those tears
Rejoice, I am a soldier

We grow up and develop certain personalities. I used to wonder why I was so sensitive, why I wondered so much about how people felt. Soft was what I was called when I was younger. Predominant feminine side was the funniest description someone said to me.
Care, that is what I do. Why should I change who I am just to appease you? Weakness you say? Well I have learned to embrace my weakness. I care because that is who I am. No matter what happens, I will not stop caring.
You are not going to cry, you are not going to weep. We all have a purpose and a reason for our existence. I have accepted mine and myself. I will watch over you wherever I am.

In a world of our own, one seeks happiness
Through lives filled with love and luxury
A child eats a cookie, then asks for another
High paying jobs with little work needed
Man finds love with another gal
Condos and care and clothing, etcetera
Fills people’s hearts with a sense of pleasure
A sense of please we know is not wholesome
So then how is one to achieve happiness

One may say that true happiness is not to be found
For man is selfish and thinks much of himself
Forgetting those who are dear to him
True happiness is found by those who care
An to those who know no other
Than that which is pure and wholesome to them
A baby looks into the eyes of his mom
For this is the first he has met and loved
An elder lays dying on the hospital bed
But knows he has done good in his life
And had been an inspiration for others

Can one find happiness in the days of his youth
Or does it only come to those just born and those of old
I have not found one who is truly happy
For the world is vast and full of comforts
Can one separate the pure from the perfect
Perfect, that which one thinks he can have
Pure, that which one knows he can achieve
